Former President Obama is “heartened”by the amount of engagement being seen across the country and protests in response to President Trump’s  immigration ban. Obama says in a statement, “fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals due to their faith or religion”. At least 50 killed, 300 shot in Chicago so far in January

Reporter says most of the shootings have been happening on the south and west side of the city. CPD says gun arrests in January are more than double what they were in 2016. Three police districts in the south and west side are responsible for half the deaths so far this year. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the CPD said they are executing several anti-violence initiatives this year by hiring more officers. That is one of many anti-violence initiatives Mayor Rahm Emanuel plans to implement. Hopefully we can see positive changes stemming from the mayors actions.
